Get fit, get friends, change the world.
A simple slogan but one that's resonated with a huge number of people. When we first launched Love Running in 2009 we thought we might get a few dozen people to sign up. Our ultimate goal was for a hundred.
So when 300 people eventually signed up and put on the red t-shirt we were, quite frankly, amazed. Even more so the next year when those figures doubled.
The thing about Love Running is that it has so many advantages. For a start, it's good for you physically. 10k is a good distance, something challenging enough yet manageable enough for most people - regardless of age, fitness or experience.
But then there are also the social and community benefits. It's fun doing this with other people. You don't have to hide yourself away in a gym with a pair of headphones. You can head out into the open air with your friends. And running on race day with hundreds of other 'red shirts' is an experience unlike any other.
Then, of course, there's the fact that it's good for the poor, the oppressed and the needy. Knowing that your sweat today is changing someone else's life tomorrow is an incredible feeling and makes it all worth while. Throw on top of that a host of other fringe benefits - increased focus and well-being, the after race parties, the optional spiritual training, the educational and citizenship impact. Well, it's easy to see how we came to the other big Love Running slogan:
It's all good.
Now Love Running is back and once again hundreds of people are committing themselves to a cause bigger than themselves. It's a buzz and one that we think is worth sharing with friends, neighbours, colleagues and family members.
Everyone can do this. Everyone should do this.
